Work Based Training - level 2

NO FEES!

Flexible NZQA-approved training

Work Based Training is a Government-funded programme that aims to provide unemployed people with training in the workplace. Trade Education matches suitable students with employers who need staff.

If you’re currently unemployed, Work Based Training could help you get into work, for a trial period - probably about 12 weeks unless another time span is more appropriate. The workplace could be just about anywhere: a shop, factory, workshop, forest, road, or whatever location the work involves. It could be anywhere in the Eastern Bay of Plenty.

The thinking is, you and the employer get to know one another over the trial period. This may lead to a long-term job. You gain valuable work experience. Depending on the training agreement, you may gain NZQA Unit Standards. Most of all, you get to show the employer your commitment and skills.

Entry requirements:

Student

You must be registered with Work and Income New Zealand. You must commit to workplace hours and be keen!

Trade Education’s Work Based Training Coordinator will prepare a training agreement and make sure everyone knows their commitments. The Coordinator will also help with ongoing support and any issues.

Employer

If you’re an employer, Work Based Training is an easy way to assess potential staff for a trial period, before making an employment decision. You save time and costs on staff recruitment. You can also be sure you get the right person for the job, before you make a long-term commitment.

Over the training period, there are no wages to pay. You just need to provide appropriate equipment and training time, and make sure your workplace complies with the Health and Safety Act 1992.
